Mohanthas has wide and in depth experience in advising on corporate mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructuring exercises, raising funds for issuers via initial public offerings and securities law. He has practised as a solicitor of England and Wales for almost ten years since 1990 before commencing practice in Malaysia as an attorney and advocate in 1999.
He routinely advises foreign direct investors on the various aspects of commencing and conducting business operations in Malaysia and assisted in applications for regulatory approvals, permits and licences for the financial and capital market sectors.
With the onset of rapid advancement in the financial digital platforms, he advises fintech companies on related and comprehensive licensing framework prescribed by Bank Negara Malaysia and the Securities Commission of Malaysia for payments services, e-money issuers, P2P and ECF (equity crowd funding) platforms providers. He is also familiar with the regulatory landscape pertaining to requirements for a Recognised Market Operator license to manage an Initial Offering Exchange platform.
His involvement in the Fintech sector also extends to advising clients on cybersecurity, data privacy, data protection and Anti money laundering regulations.
